Controller Information
The 28th FIPS-Mouche World Fly Fishing Championship will be held in NZ from March 21st to March 29th, 2008 and based in Rotorua. The actual competition will be held on Wednesday 26th March to Friday 29th March inclusive.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons who would like to participate in this event by acting as controllers for the international fishermen and women who will be participating in these championships. In general, controllers will work on the same sector (river or lake) throughout the competition. All controllers must join Sport Fly Fishing NZ (Inc) as an associate member ($25) so that the competition insurance will cover them.
Accomodation (on a shared basis) will be arranged locally (close to the sector you are controlling ) for each group of controllers. Those who will wish to make their own arrangements by e.g. staying with friends or relatives or in their own homes, should make this clear in this application. As it is critical that controllers are on time at the sectors every morning, we need to be sure that suitable travel arrangements are in place for all controllers.
The competition organisers will provide the following as a minimum:
- Accomodation (excluding meals) and transport to the sector daily for out of area controllers OR a petrol voucher for those who are using private accomodation and their own vehicles.
- Lunches for the 3 competition days.
- Training in the duties of a controller
- All necessary equipment to perform controller's duties including measuring boards etc.
- Life jackets for Boat Controllers who do not have their own.
- For those local controllers working all three competition days, a paid invitation to the closing banquet on Saturday evening, 28th March at the Kingsgate Hotel (but not including accomodation in Rotorua) As was announced in Finland at the 27th WFFC, SFFNZ is happy to welcome up to 20 international anglers who wish to work as controllers during the championship. Acceptance will be on a first come first served basis and relevant experience will be taken into account should there be more offers than can be accepted.
Overseas controllers will be charged as guests less the charges for the 5 day guest program and will be accomodated in the same hotel as the teams as far as is possible. The package will include attendance at the opening and closing ceremonies, all meals and accomodation and transport to and from the sectors during competition. We hope to organise at least one day of fishing for overseas controllers during the official practice days.
If you would prefer to stay with other controllers during the 3 days of the championship, please indicate this in your application and we will quote you a revised cost for this.
If you would like to apply to be a controller, please click here to complete the form online or download and fill in the form below and return it by e-mail to the return address indicated. Note that applicants must have an e-mail address to which information bulletins and schedules can be sent as it will not be practical to rely on the post to keep in contact with the controllers.
